What happened?
Up until last week, if you wanted to run an ad, Facebook and Instagram had a rule that an image couldn’t consist of more than 20% text. This was problematic for many marketers, but especially for people who sell Teachers Pay Teachers curriculum because more often than not, the actual product is FULL of text!
But now all of that has changed! I’ve been noticing for the last month or so that I’ve been able to get ads through that in the past, would have failed Facebook’s image/text ratio tests. But last week, Facebook made it official. There are no longer any restrictions when it comes to text in ad images. Hooray!
What does this mean for you?
Essentially, this means it just got much easier for you to get an ad approved, especially if you sell products that are very text heavy. If you’re a TpT seller, it means that you’ll be able to use your product covers in an ad campaign!
You’ll still want to be cautious. A super busy image on Facebook and Instagram still isn’t going to sell as well as a clean, striking image, but if you’ve got a product you want to highlight that includes a bunch of letters, numbers or other text, Facebook isn’t going to tell you “No” anymore.
You can get all of the details from Social Media Examiner. My guess is that this is partially related to the move toward Instagram Story ads. The ad style for story ads by nature includes a lot more text.
Regardless of the reason, this is going to make it easier to sell some products with Facebook ads and get rid of a lot of headaches for designers and ads managers.
