Usually the answer is no. But not always!
I get this question about how many Facebook ad pixels to have a lot. Even more often, I have clients show up with multiple pixels. They usually aren’t sure how they ended up with so many pixels. Sometimes, they were given bad information about whether or not they needed more than one pixel. Nine times out of ten, people who are running Facebook ads only need one pixel.
Sometimes it makes sense to add a second pixel, but not very often. I’m going to run through a few different scenarios below.
Scenario 1: I have a Teachers Pay Teachers shop and a website that matches my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Should I have two pixels and put one in each place?
Nope. You for sure want the same pixel for your TpT shop as your regular website. The people who are visiting/buying on your website look exactly like the people who are buying from your shop on TpT. So you want to use the same pixel in both places. Having more than one pixel makes it extra complicated when it comes time to build good audiences. It also makes it easy to accidentally use the wrong pixel in one of your ads.
Scenario 2: I work in a crafting niche. I make crafts that I sell to people in a website shop. I also have online courses where I teach people the business of selling crafts that they make. Should I have two pixels?
In this situation, the question you have to ask yourself is, “Are the people who are buying my crafts the same as the people who want to learn the business of selling crafts?” Probably not. The people who buy your crafts probably look very different from budding entrepreneurs who want to learn how to sell crafts. In this situation, you basically have two different businesses: One for craft buyers and one for crafting entrepreneurs. I recommend having 2 pixels, one for each business, and also keeping the businesses separate.
Scenario 3: It’s been a long time since the last time I ran ads. I can’t remember what pixel I put on my website or where it is. Should I just make a new one and add that to my website too?
Not if you can help it! There are a variety of tools you might not know about that can help you figure out where the extra pixel is and which one it is. One of the best tools is the Pixel Helper Chrome extension that you can download here. It will tell you which pixel is on your website. You can also visit “Events Manager” in your Facebook Business Manager. Events Manager can help you figure out where your pixel lives. It tells you which websites are sending traffic to your website.
