This is how you find out!
I’ve talked before about how sometimes you get emails from Facebook that look real, but are actually fake.
I learned recently that there’s a place you can visit in Facebook where you can see all of the emails that Facebook recently sent to you. Basically, if the email you have “from Facebook” isn’t on this list, you can guess that it’s very likely a scam.
Now this doesn’t totally stop the scammers. One of the bad guys’ scams actually involves leveraging Facebook’s automatic emails to lure you over to click on bad things.
But being able to see if Facebook actually sent an email still helps. Especially if you are trying to get an account re-instated and they are sending emails asking for proof of identity. Which Facebook DOES do sometimes.
I can’t remember where I learned this trick, but I’m inclined to credit Jody Milward, since she’s taught me 80% of the cool tricks I know.
I was going to write out the instructions for you in this handy-dandy blog post, but I realized that this article from Facebook actually does a very thorough job explaining everything you need to know. Check it out.
