In the post below, I explain how to set up Facebook 2FA. I’m currently recommending that all of my clients switch to using an authentication app for logging into their Facebook accounts. I recommend they rely on the app rather than text messages because the app is more secure.
I’m also recommending that my clients install that app on a second device, like a tablet so that they can still access the authenticator app, even if they lose or damage their phone.
Here are instructions for how to set up 2FA with an authentication app.
- Download an authenticator app from your App Store. I recommend the Google Authenticator App or LastPass. (Images & links below.)
- Open Facebook on your desktop computer.
- Click on Your profile picture in the upper right corner.
- Follow this path: Settings > Settings and Privacy > Security > Security and Login > Recommended Set Up two-factor authentication
- Use the app you downloaded to set up 2FA on your phone.
- Repeat the same steps to set up the app on your 2nd device, like a tablet. Having the authenticator on a second device allows you to log in to Facebook even if your phone is lost or damaged.
